Key Responsibilities
- Give accurate and timely counsel to executives on legal topics including dowry, dower, domestic violence and child marriage.
- Provide legal support to survivors referred by IRC personnel on relevant legal issues.
- Ensure a women-, girls- and child-friendly environment in legal support.
- Ensure legal counseling assistance to safe-shelter and safe-space-based survivors.
- Plan and conduct legal sessions in Rohingya camps and host communities.
- Specify internal governance policies and regularly monitor compliance.
- Apply effective risk-management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, statutory regulations and other formalities.
- Handle risks in the legal-support delivery process and decision-making as required.
- Draft legal documents such as contracts, statements, agreements of panel lawyers and others.
- Handle litigation and maintain professional coordination with the donor (IOM).
- Keep up with current changes in relevant areas of law and contribute to enhancement of the organization’s knowledge base.
- Provide legal assistance, including counseling, mediation, court cases and bail, to GBV survivors.
- Maintain administrative rules and procedures and manage plans.
- Organize meetings, workshops and training and prioritize tasks.
- Deal with complex matters involving multiple stakeholders and forces.
- Communicate with panel lawyers, local police stations and the District Legal Aid Committee as per project donor requirements.
- File FIRs and GDs at local police stations according to the need for legal interventions.
- Refer emergency cases to panel lawyers for filing cases in court.
- Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly reports as required by the protection project.
- Share case updates with the case worker and safe-space supervisor of IOM.
- Maintain documentation of cases, legal counseling and mediations.
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the Legal Coordinator and Pulse BD management.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent. A master’s degree in Law (LLM) or specialization in human rights, refugee law or international law is preferred.
- At least 3–5 years of experience in legal practice, with a focus on human rights, refugee law or legal aid. Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly refugees, is highly desirable.
- Proven experience as a Legal Officer at community level.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of local law and procedures.
- Full comprehension of the influences of the external environment of a corporation.
- Demonstrated ability to create legal defensive or proactive strategies.
- High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
- Sound judgment and ability to analyze situations and information.
- Outstanding communication skills.
- Proficiency in English and Bengali; knowledge of Chittagonian dialects is an advantage.
- LLB (Hons) Degree in Law and Bangladesh Bar Council Certificate are an asset.
