Overview

This consolidated profile brings together two complementary non-communicable disease (NCD) interventions implemented for Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMN) and host communities in Cox’s Bazar. Across the two settings, the interventions focus on prevention, early screening and diagnosis, treatment initiation, long-term follow-up, referral, community education, facility strengthening and tailored support for people living with chronic conditions.

Primary prevention & health education
Community health education and behavioral-change counseling in Camp 12; structured group education for healthy adults, patients and caregivers in host communities.
Screening & early detection
NCD screening by Medical Assistants/NCD Screeners in the camp and structured screening pathways linked with targeted host-community facilities.
Clinical consultation & treatment
Medical Officer consultations, early diagnosis and treatment initiation, supported by medicines and facility-based clinical services.
Follow-up & home-based care
Regular follow-up, tracing of missed appointments and home-based care for elderly, immobile or chronic NCD patients.
Diagnostics & rehabilitation
Blood glucose and blood-pressure monitoring, doctor-recommended ECG/laboratory testing, and physiotherapy support for elderly people and PWDs in the camp component.
Referral & access support
Camp-based referral tracking, porter/home visits and ambulance transfer; host-community transport-cost support and coordinated referral for high-risk patients.
Health-system strengthening
Training, supervision, equipment/pharmaceutical support, infrastructure maintenance tools, record-keeping and NCD logbooks in host-community facilities.
Monitoring & evaluation
Baseline/endline KAP surveys in the host component and regular clinical follow-up/monitoring across project services.

Key Findings & Actions

Key Achievements — Host Community Component

Achieved a 100% correct-answer rate on clinical competency post-tests for all 16 Health Educators and 7 permanent medical facility staff members. Mapped safe, non-duplicated and motivated host-community medical facilities for equipment integration.
